Decades to air Mary Tyler Moore marathon in honor of the TV icon

The fiercly talented and wildly influencial Mary Tyler Moore passed away on Wednesday, January 25, at the age of 80. Decades remembers this comedic talent with a special multi-day tribute of programming celebrating her career beginning Friday, February 3, 8AM–1PM ET, and continues all weekend beginning Saturday, February 4, at 1PM | 12 C through Monday, February 5, at 7AM | 6C.

Celebrated for her work as a groundbreaking actress who paved the way for women on television, Moore started her career in the 1950s,  beginning with television guest parts, and went on to lead Emmy- and Golden Globe Award–winning TV roles in the 1960s and '70s. She then went on to film roles including one Academy Award nomination, and on to Broadway with a Tony Award–winning performance.

In honor of her illustrious career, Decades will feature Mary Tyler Moore on The Dick Cavett Show, on which she appeared in 1986. We will also present a Hollywood profile of her influential and successful career, followed by her 1986 starring role in the theatrical film Just Between Friends, co-starring Ted Danson and Christine Lahti. We will finish the day with her early appearance in the TV series 77 Sunset Strip.

The weekend binge will feature the actress in her award-winning and critically acclaimed TV series The Mary Tyler Moore Show, with 84 continuing episodes offered back-to-back Saturday, Sunday and into Monday morning. See the complete schedule of these special events below. 

Mary Tyler Moore first gained TV sitcom fame in the 1960s TV series The Dick Van Dyke Show before gaining TV superstardom with her 1970s series The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Playing single career woman Mary Richards, she became a benchmark of the women’s movement for her serious depiction of a working woman at a time when television typically depicted them as housewives and secretaries. The series also starred Ed Asner, Betty White and Valerie Harper.

12pET – 77 Sunset Strip  – Mary Tyler Moore’s third appearance on the series, which aired in 1960, right before her star-making turn as Laura Petrie in The Dick Van Dyke Show in 1961.
